Overlooking the Harbour stand Portland Castle.  Built in the early 1540s, it was one of a series of Device Forts constructed under Henry VIII to defend the south coast of England from the treat of French and Spanish invasion.

It has been leased as a private gentlemen’s house and a residence for senior military personnel in its time.  And was taken on by English Heritage in the 1980s.

There are lots of activities on offer at the Castle for young and old.You can walk about the gun platform
