Each year at the Annual Town Council Meeting held in May, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected by Portland Town Councillors. The Mayor represents the council at official and civic events and will select a local charity to raise money for during their term.
In May 2026, Councillor Pete Roper was elected as the Mayor of Portland and Councillor Paul Kimber as Deputy Mayor. In the Mayor’s absence the Deputy Mayor will stand in place.
