Mayor’s Report to July 2026 Full Council

This is a summary of my public engagements over the past month

  • Weymouth Civic Society Annual Awards Evening.  Portland organisations won three awards at this event:- 
  1. The award for Community went to b-side together with artists Antje Rook and Sarah Elizabeth for The Portland Dress – a community arts project in September 2025 celebrating heritage, migration and identity.
  2. The award for Heritage recognised Songs of Stone a Summer series of oral history and heritage community conversations in partnership with Portland Museum. They shared memories and stories of Portland stone and quarries, life in lived memory and the heritage of this unique natural and industrial landscape.
  3. A Commendation was awarded for the renovation of Kingdom Hall Fortuneswell, Portland
  • Attended the Yeovil Mayor Elect’s Civic Event and Charity Concert
  • Weymouth Armed Forces Annual Service and Parade
  • I raised the Portland Armed Forces Day flag in Victoria Square
  • Opened the Portland Parish Fete at All Saints Church.
  • Attended TODS Technology Veterans Day, where TODS Technology signed the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Two veteran’s charities were also recognised with a donation to The Veterans Hub and Helping Homeless Veterans UK.
  • Portland Town Council were successful in being awarded Green Flag awards recognising well managed parks and green spaces in Easton Gardens and Victoria Gardens. Mant thanks to PTC staff, particularly the Green Team for their efforts in gaining this accreditation.
